Sports, search with the guide, subtitles — and a much faster Velo

Our biggest update yet: a new Sports section built from your own program guide, search that shows what's on now and later, subtitles for movies and series, live TV rewind on the phone, and setup and refreshes that are far faster and far gentler on your provider.

Sports

A new Sports section finds today's games in your provider's program guide and event channels: what's live now, what's on later today, and every channel showing each game — HD and 4K versions grouped together, your favourite channels first. Open a game for details from the guide and its replays. On Android TV, preview any channel right on the game screen before you switch to it; on the phone, tap a channel and Back brings you straight back to try the next. Replays of earlier matches stay out of Live now, and the list keeps itself up to date while you're on it. Not a sports fan? Turn Sports off in Settings.

Follow your teams

Follow a team from any game and Velo tells you when their game starts — a notification at kick-off even when the app is closed, and a quick note while you're using it. The teams you follow are the same on your TV and your phone. On phones with Android 14 or later, allow Alarms & reminders when Velo asks, so the alert arrives right on time.

Search that shows what's on

Search for a team, a show or a channel and you get the matching channels plus an On TV guide underneath: what's on, on which channel, now and later. On Android TV, open the full Live Guide filtered to your search in one press. If nothing current matches, Check for new channels refreshes your channel list on the spot.

Subtitles

Find subtitles for movies and episodes with your own free SubDL account — on Android TV set up once by scanning a code with your phone, on the phone by pasting your key in Settings. Velo remembers your choice and its timing for each title, lets you nudge the timing if it's off, and has the next episode's subtitles ready while you watch a series. On the phone, subtitles built into a file now show too.

Rewind live TV on your phone

Missed a goal? Rewind the channel you're watching — Velo keeps up to the last hour on the phone while you watch (5 minutes unless you choose more in Settings). Go forward or tap LIVE to catch up, or just let it catch up by itself.

Channel lists that stay fresh

Your live channel list now refreshes every hour while Velo is open — never while you're watching — so channels your provider adds on game day show up the same day, and Velo tells you when new event channels arrive. On the phone, the program guide also updates itself on Wi-Fi.

Android TV · Phone

Faster, and gentler on your provider

Velo now downloads each list — live, movies, series and the program guide — once, instead of asking for every category separately, and saves only what changed. First-time setup on a very large provider is several minutes faster, a full refresh takes about a minute and a half, and your provider sees a handful of requests instead of hundreds — the pattern that can get a home connection temporarily blocked.

Change server address, keep everything

Providers often give several addresses for the same service — one for home and one for VPNs, for example. Switching between them now keeps your channel list, favourites and history: Velo checks it's the same provider and simply refreshes. Changing only your password keeps everything too, and on Android TV you can edit your connection from your phone by scanning a code.

Favourites, arranged your way

Move picks a channel up and drops it exactly where you want it — on the phone, just drag it. Pin to top really pins to the top, channels that have gone offline are marked, and the order is the same on your TV and phone. On Android TV the Live Guide also shows a scroll bar, so you always know where you are in a long list.

Syncing between your devices

  • Favourites, Save for Later, followed shows and followed teams sync correctly between your TV, phone and other devices.
  • Items saved on the phone are no longer lost at the next sync, and removing one saved movie no longer removes the others.
  • Sync Now always fetches the latest copy before saving yours, so one device can't overwrite another.
  • New Episodes lists only genuinely new episodes — never ones you've already watched or started, and no more whole back catalogues.
  • Names with accents come through intact.

Watching

  • Background checks wait while you watch, so they never compete with your stream.
  • Velo is far more careful about which favourites it marks offline — a busy provider, or one blocking your connection, no longer makes working channels look dead.
  • Continue Watching resumes from exactly where you stopped.
  • Streams from servers that don't use https play.

Signing in

  • A wrong username or password now says so, instead of reporting a server error.
  • On the phone, Update Connection is there even when Velo can't reach your provider — exactly when you need it.

On the phone

  • Getting things ready: the first sign-in waits on one screen until your channel lists are in, instead of opening with empty tabs.
  • Choose where Velo opens — Home, Live TV, Movies, Series, Favorites, Library or Sports.
  • The Live Guide preview plays with sound, with a button to mute it.
  • Movies start in your phone's language when the file has it.
  • Downloads need an active subscription to play; they're kept and play again as soon as it's confirmed.
  • The long-press menu stays put — pinning or moving a favourite no longer closes the list, and Back closes the menu.
  • Movies and episodes started from the Home banner play with the right controls and keep your place.
  • The status bar stays dark after you've turned the phone sideways, and the offline notice no longer covers the top of the screen.
  • The first press of Back always works.

On Android TV

  • The channel strip during playback highlights only the channel you're on.
  • Moving past the last channel of a Live Guide category no longer jumps to another category.
  • Settings rows keep their shape when highlighted.

Privacy

  • Search runs entirely on your device — nothing you type is sent anywhere.
  • Your provider login is kept out of the device's diagnostic logs.

Requirements

  • Velo now needs Android 7.0 or later. On a device with Android 6.0, the version you have keeps working but doesn't get this update.

Fixes for servers without https and very large channel lists

  • Channels from servers that don't use https play again.
  • Update Connection no longer freezes on very large channel lists.
  • Signing in to a different server loads that server's channels.
  • Gentler on your provider: one connection at a time while syncing.
